‘Big Walk’ raises £2k for local causes

by Editor Lowton and Golborne News

Well done to everyone who took part in Business for Youth’s Big Walk last month – you helped raise £1,900 for local good causes.

Organisers announced the fundraising total this week, confirming that the money raised will now be distributed among local school pastoral care teams and groups providing activities for children in the town.

About the Big Walk

The Big Walk 7 event was organised by Business for Youth in Newton-le-Willows and Earlestown Athletic JFC, and was a great opportunity for people to get together, enjoy the fresh air and find out more about the nature on their doorsteps.

The day began with breakfast, before the group sef off on a five mile walk. A real party atmosphere was created with music and  some of the walkers came in fancy dress – everything from a woman on horseback to ballerinas and even dinosaurs!

On route through Lime and Wood Country Park, the group enjoyed a fascinating talk from Friends group representatives Cath, Jim and Ian, who explained all about the park’s history, its current projects and its beehives.

The walkers finished up at The Hive, home of Earlestown Athletic JFC, where they enjoyed a free barbecue and family entertainment incuding inflatables, stalls and birds of prey.

Terry Maguire, Chairman and Trustee of Business for Youth in Newton-le-Willows said: “This was much needed enjoyment for the people of our town, coming together to just enjoy a lovely community spirit after the torrid times we have been through.

“Business for Youth are proud to provide such events in our town that will create a little fun and happiness.”

Thanks also went to Newton RUFC who helped marshall the event.
