Bikers descend on Earlestown for Bank Holiday spectacle

by Gemma Melling

More than 120 bikes roared into Earlestown this Bank Holiday Monday, for a day filled with good humoured conversations, delicious food and activities for children.

The BikeFest event was organised by Business for Youth in Newton-le-Willows and the Newton and District Veterans Association.

Veterans and bike fanatics were invited to bring down their machines for display on the Market Square on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August 2024.

In all, 123 bikers heeded the call, and the display of engines was quite impressive!

Trophies – donated by Lanes Trophies on Higher Parr Street – were awarded to the three Best Bikes on the day.

Two local cafes – Crumpets and Arcadia – kept everyone in food and drink whilst a stall was set up by Earlestown shop, Iconz, selling everything the bikers and visitors could want, and more!

Well done to everyone involved in organising the event, which includes the Veterans and Cllr Terry Maguire, as well as volunteers who helped run a raffle, set up the gazebo and so on.

Chris Scarisbrick, Secretary of the Newton and District Veterans Association, said: “The event was a resounding success. Everyone stepped up to the mark and worked hard to make it a success, so it was a vibrant day with smiles everywhere.

“This is surely good news for the town, raised its profile, brought revenue in, and gave people a good day.”

Not only that, but the event also raised £400 for the Armed Forces Bikers charity.

A brilliant example of local businesses, organisations and volunteers all coming together to create something special for the community. Well done all!
