A brand new B&M store has openened in the heart of Earlestown town centre, filling the space once occupied by Wilko.
The new B&M store officially opened its doors on Friday, 28 March 2025.
It fell to nominated local charity, the Newton-le-Willows Sea Cadets to perform the official opening ceremony. They were chosen by the new team at the store, who were asked to nominate a local charity they think thought deserved some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community.
Newton-Le-Willows Sea Cadets aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment. Through various activities and adventures, they teach the children to learn teamwork, respect, loyalty and other life lessons.
In addition to opening the store, the team also received £250 worth of B&M vouchers, which will go towards helping the charity to continue doing the great work they do.
The store manager, said: “It was really exciting to welcome customers through the doors; the feedback so far has been fantastic.”
“A big thank you to the team at Newton-Le-Willows Sea Cadets who helped us open the store; we hope that our donation can help them to continue to do the great work they do.”
B&M’s opening comes a year and a half after the collapse of the Wilko chain, which had previously been the occupier in the 15,000sq ft unit.
The new store has brought 38 new jobs to the town and the unit itself has been comprehensively refurbished, inside and out.
The official opening came a week after the new Pimbletts Bakery opened just a few doors away on Market Street. With two new big names moving into the town centre, a new banking hub, and plans for £28m worth of regeneration coming soon, let’s hope the future really is bright for Earlestown.
