Gymnasts from Newton-le-Willows’ Hope Acro travelled to Stoke-on-Trent at the weekend to compete in the NDP British Finals. The gymnasts had qualified as North West Champions after winning at the regional prelims in March and took their place against the eleven other regional champions from across the UK.

Daisy Kay and Libby Williams produced a magnificent performance in the Grade 3 Women’s Pair. The judges awarded them an astronomical score of 27.050, one of only four scores above 27.000 across the entire weekend. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough as they were pipped to the gold by another extraordinary performance by the pair representing Scotland. Nevertheless, Kay and Williams were delighted with their well-deserved national silver medal.

Alice Pownall, Hannah Gannon and Daisy Denmade competed in the Grade 3 Women’s Group with their dynamic, high-energy routine. Hopes were high for a medal but they were edged out of the medals into 4th place at the very end of the competition. The trio can be rightly proud of their superb achievement.

In the Grade 5 categories, Hope gymnasts showed some remarkable resilience and courage to even make it out onto the floor. Isobel Stirrup, Jess Lancaster and Lois Preston in the Women’s Group, and Betty Prescott and Emma Green in the Women’s Pair, had faced monumental personal challenges and difficulties in the lead up to the finals. Exhibiting extraordinary bravery, both partnerships stood up to the test and were rewarded with 5th place finishes in two high quality fields.
