Business for Youth spread festive cheer

by Gemma Melling

The festive period was another busy one for local community group, Business for Youth (BFY).

Their toy appeal once again made sure that no child in Newton-le-Willows need face Christmas without a gift, thanks to the generous donations from businesses and individuals – with incredible support too from The House of Eden on Newton High Street, where many customers donated presents.

As a result, the team of volunteers at Business for Youth were able to pack at least 3 toys for children in 53 families in Newton-le-Willows, identified with the help of local schools. Alongside this, families were gifted selection boxes, books and a £25-40 voucher per family.

Terry Maguire from Business for Youth said: “It was a lovely community feel to have had so many donate and to be able to help many that need a little support.”

Donations poured in for the Business for Youth Christmas appeal, helped by The House of Eden on High Street.

And the group also made Christmas memories for many other children, too, opening their popular Santa’s Grotto, which was completely free to attend.

Terry explained: “Children and families were able to visit and each child spoke with Mother and Father Christmas, receiving a selection box.  There was refreshments for all including mince pies, gingerbread, hot chocolate with whipped cream all catered for by Nanny Annie.

“The BFY volunteers were dressed up in elf and grinch costumes to add to the fun. It was a very lovely atmosphere and around 200 children visited.”

Business for Youth are now busy planning their events programme for 2024, which will begin with the return of the popular Family Winter Walks.

Well done to everyone involved!
