Free summer holiday creative writing workshops for kids

by Gemma Melling

Liverpool City Region based literary arts organisation, Read Now Write Now, is delivering free creative writing workshops in Newton-le-Willows this summer, thanks to funding from Arts Council England.

The climate change themed workshops are taking place across the region in schools, libraries and online to help young people write powerful and inspiring stories which can be included into a published anthology (using recycled paper), displayed in local libraries as well as read out at special storytelling events.

In Newton-le-Willows, the course will be delivered at the town’s library on Wednesday, 24, Thursday 25 and Friday 26 July, from 10am to 12pm and bookings are now being taken.

Charlie Lea, creative director of Read Now Write Now, says:  “Climate change is the biggest issue facing the earth and we all need to do something to help tackle it before it is too late. Young people are our future and many of them are already passionate and active about climate change and want to inspire others to take an active role as well.

“To make the stories authentic, we are working with national climate change charity, Hope for the Future. The anthology will be added to library catalogues as a published and e-book for all to read and find out what they can do to save our planet.

“I also hope that, seeing their work displayed in an anthology, in libraries and at special storytelling events, young people taking part will receive a well needed boost to their wellbeing, confidence and help them develop their writing skills.”
