Great turnout for first Family Winter Walk of 2024

by Gemma Melling

The first of three Family Winter Walks organised by Business for Youth (BFY) took place on Saturday (20 January) – and there was a great turnout, despite slightly dank weather.

The group enjoyed a gentle stroll, taking in the Nine Arches, where Chris from Network Rail was on hand to explain all about the restoration work that’s going on. He was joined by Ian from Sankey Canal Restoration Society, who explained all about how their group’s work in the area.

After a couple of hours of walking, talking and getting to know each other, the group headed back to the BFY HQ, where they were treated to hot drinks, hot pot and soup… lovely.

The walkers also did some litter picking on their way, helping to leave Sankey Valley looking even better than it was when they set out.

Two more walks to come

Don’t miss out – come along and enjoy the great outdoors with your family on BFY’s next organised community walk.

It takes place on Saturday, 17 February 2024 at 9.30am.

The group are also planning a Mothers’ Day Walk on Sunday, 10 March 2024.

Come along before the walk to enjoy tea, coffee and juice at the BFY HQ on Sturgess Street, and after a gentle walk, which will last approximately two hours, it’s all back to the HQ for  warm drinks and hot food.
