A huge well done to this group of young volunteers who spent some time at Newton Community Hospital this week, working their green-fingered magic!
The young people from Business for Youth in Newton-le-Willows gave up their time to go along to the hospital, on Bradlegh Road, to see how they could brighten up the grounds and put a smile on the faces of patients.

Newton Community Hospital is an inpatient unit providing rehabilitation for patients who are medically fit to leave the acute care but require more therapy or clinical input to help them return home (or assisted care environment).
It offers outside seating areas and a garden where patients can spend time, which gave the young people from Business for Youth an idea.

Having learnt lots of gardening skills through BFY’s Junior Gardening Club, which allows them to learn the basics of horticulture, including growing their own veg, the group are no strangers to brightening up the local area with blooms.
It was this group of young people who planted up the planters in Earlestown Town Centre at Easter, and worked with the Newton Veterans Association to fill the town’s Garden of Remembrance full of colour too.

So this week, they got to work at the Community Hospital, filling 35 planters with brightly coloured flowers which will now bloom long into Autumn for the patients to enjoy.

We think they’ve done an amazing job!

After their hard work at the hospital, the group went for a nature walk along the canal – where they enjoyed playing ‘Hug a Tree’ and other games.
