24-hour walk shows support for Ukraine

by Gemma Melling

An intrepid band of walkers fought the tiredness to complete a 24-hour walk in aid of Ukraine in Newton-le-Willows this weekend.

The ‘peace walk’ took place in Lyme and Wood Country Park, and aimed to raise money to support people affected by conflict in Ukraine.

In all, more than £2,500 was raised for the British Red Cross Ukranian appeal.

Participants in the walk could choose whether to battle it out around the clock, or just stick around for as long as they were able.

The event was organised by Business For Youth, Rotary Newton-le-Willows and Friends of Lyme and Wood.

Writing on Twitter, Business for Youth said: “How wonderful to have been part of the 24 hour Ukrainian Peace Walk at Lyme n Wood country park.

Many of the intrepid walkers stuck it out overnight!

“A day that brought a community together to raise money for the people of Ukraine. A fantastic spirit and up to now raising over £2,500.

“Thank you to everyone that walked and donated.”
