Ascent Autism Specialist College in Newton-le-Willows finished 2023 in style as it was crowned winner of the Creative School of the Year Award at the Education Today School & Supplier Awards.

The prestigious ceremony, which took place in London, recognises and rewards the suppliers, schools and individuals who work tirelessly for the greater good of the sector.

As part of its entry, Ascent College, part of the Remarkable Autism Charity, highlighted the bespoke curriculum and enrichment opportunities available to students.

Across the year, students have benefitted from access to a wealth of enrichment opportunities, including a circus skills workshop, performing arts sessions, a student voice programme, and more.

The entry went on to highlight how the college’s partnerships with other educational provisions help enhance outcomes for autistic individuals.

Head of adult services at Ascent College, Julliet Doherty, said: “We are incredibly honoured to be crowned winners of Creative School of the Year at the Education Today School & Supplier Awards.

“We pride ourselves on offering our students the best possible opportunities and always try to think of new, creative ways to enhance their experiences. Across the year, we delivered a wealth of enrichment workshops, programmes and initiatives that helped students gain new skills and develop.”

In attendance at the awards ceremony alongside Julliet was Robin Bush, CEO of Remarkable Autism Charity.

Commenting on the win, Robin said: “Remarkable Autism has a mission, to provide world leading services to Autistic Children and Adults. Every member of our team works hard to ensure the best possible outcomes for our learners and students. Ascent College has been leading the way in developing innovative approaches to learning through a creative and innovative curriculum. Each and every member of our college plays a part in its success and I’m so proud that this has been recognised by Education Today through this award.”
