Ascent Autism Specialist College, part of the Remarkable Group, has won a Silver award in the School or College Partnership of the Year category at the Pearson National Teaching Awards.
The college, which supports autistic young adults aged 16 to 25, was recognised for its work with employers including Holiday Inn Express and Vinci Facilities, which has helped students access work placements, vocational qualifications and routes into employment.
Much of this work takes place through the college’s Vocational Learning Hub, where students build skills in design and printing, horticulture, animal care and woodwork. Students interested in hospitality can gain hands-on experience through the college’s catering horsebox, which trades to the public twice a week.
Ascent College was one of 99 education settings and individuals named as Silver Winners this year, announced on National Thank a Teacher Day. The college is now in the running for the Gold award, which will be announced later this year at a ceremony in London, also broadcast on BBC One’s The One Show.
Julliet Doherty, Executive Head at Ascent College, said: “As Executive Head of Ascent Autism Specialist College, I am immensely proud to announce we have won the Silver Pearson Award for School or College Partnership of the Year.
“This honour recognises the dedication, innovation and collaboration of our staff, students, stakeholders and partners. Together we have created inclusive, life-changing opportunities and measurable successes for our students.
