Poppy art is spectacular way to mark Armistice

by Gemma Melling
This incredible installation of poppies is now on display in Newton-le-Willows ahead of Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2024.

It’s the work of the Newton Sea Cadets, with help from lots of local volunteers, who’ve been handmaking poppies for weeks in order to create this spectacular display.

The cadets have been helped by local schools, community groups, care homes and individuals and the finished installation is just amazing.

Writing on their Facebook Page, Newton Sea Cadets said: “Our Poppy display is now up, featuring a special addition this year: a community display designed to bring us all together in remembrance and solidarity.

This collaborative section has been created by Wargrave House School, Ascent College, the 4th Newton Brownies, 21st Beavers, Cubs & Scouts, Lyme Community Primary School, and the Wargrave Community Choir. We are excited to announce that more contributions are still to come from Woodlands Nursery, Business for Youth, St. Peter’s Primary School, and St. Mary and John’s Primary School.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Knit and Natter group for their generous donation of a large quantity of beautifully knitted poppies, which add a personal touch to our display.

We invite everyone in the community to visit and reflect on the significance of this display as we come together to honor those who have served.”
