Planned roadworks in Newton-le-Willows:
Parkside Link Road West, Newton-le-Willows
Temporary traffic signals are in place on Parkside Link Road West near the substation junctions to allow safe crossing for automated traffic. The signals are expected to remain in place until Saturday, 31 October.
Queen Street, Earlestown
A section of Queen Street will be closed from Thursday, 28 May until Saturday, 10 January 2027, as part of the ongoing Earlestown regeneration works. Traffic from Railway Street will be diverted via King Street while the works are carried out. Eric Wright, who are undertaking the works on behalf of the Council, have a dedicated public liaison officer – send any questions to earlestownmarketsquare@ericwright.co.uk.
Market Street / Tamworth Street, Earlestown
Phased temporary traffic management measures will come into effect along Market Street in Earlestown town centre from 7am on Monday 3 August 2026, with completion anticipated for Monday 10 August. On-street parking bays adjacent to the works on Market Street will be suspended.
Works will then move to Tamworth Street and are scheduled to commence at 7am on Monday 10 August, with completion anticipated on Thursday 13 August. During this time, vehicle movements will be managed by temporary traffic lights.
These works are to enable essential external works, including the installation of lightening protection equipment, to be carried out as the restoration of Earlestown Town Hall nears its conclusion.
A traffic management plan has been carefully designed to keep disruption to a minimum, with access for service and delivery vehicles to local businesses being maintained wherever possible.
Poplar Avenue, Newton-le-Willows
Poplar Avenue will be closed from 14 September – 28 September whilst works are carried out by Cadent Gas. A signed detour will be in place.

So the Borough is transferring ownership of council land to Community groups. Will money to maintain the land be included? How long before these public assets are bought up by private developers? This is not a good move.
How did the council sign of with building regulations the ruddy eyesore of those buildings that are on the roof of the old co op building facing tesco in Earlestown. They are a disgrace without proper wood finishing them of.
