Rotary supports Christmas shoe box appeal

Rotary Newton-le-Willows has been busy gathering donations for this year’s Shoe Box appeal, which sends Christmas gifts to disadvantaged children, families, and older people in other countries.

Their volunteers have been collecting up shoe boxes filled with gifts to be shipped out along with all the other donations.

Rotarian Alan Pomfret, pictured top with some of the filled boxes, said: “Rotary started the Shoe Box scheme in 1994, and we’re proud to be part of the team sending over 50,000 boxes every year to people in Eastern Europe.

“The boxes are filled with household basics for families including soaps and shampoo, and gifts, clothing, and accessories for children and teenagers. We know from our Rotarian friends in the clubs, distributing them that everyone’s delighted to receive them.’

The Club’s boxes will be collected and distributed in time for Christmas in countries including Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine.
