Sun shines as crowds enjoy the return of Newton Town Show

by Gemma Melling

Newton Town Show made a triumphant return to Mesnes Park at the weekend, with thousands of people turning out to enjoy the day.

The popular annual event had been absent from the calendar for the past two years, due to the coronavirus pandemic. But the sun shone as revellers turned up for its return, and the day did not disappoint.

Highlights of this year’s show was the incredible Stunt show by Stannage Stunt Team, and the endless array of classic vehicles – from blue light vehicles to vintage American and British cars.

There was an even an RAF flypast, with a Spitfire circling the park.

Music came from the St Helens Concert Band and little ones were entertained by Punch and Judy shows, arts and crafts and a circus skills area.

There was no shortage of delicious food and drink, and loads of stalls to browse.

For the thrillseekers, there was a head-spinning choice of rides at the fairground.

All in all a fabulous day – so make sure you get the date in your diary for next year: Saturday, 5 August 2023!
