Thumbs up from Ofsted for Lyme Community Primary

by Gemma Melling

Congratulations to Lyme Community Primary in Newton-le-Willows, who have been rated ‘Good’ in all areas in their recent Ofsted inspection.

The school, on Lyme Street, was inspected in November, and the outcome has just been published on Ofsted’s website.

The inspectors found that Lyme Community is “a happy place where everyone is respected for who they are”, pupils are enthusiastic and keen to learn, whilst the school sets high standards for their achievement.

The report highlighted the brilliant behaviour of the pupils, who it said are “kind, courteous and well mannered”, with little disruption to learning as a result.

Inspectors said that the school was aware that it needed to increase the numbers of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading at the end of Year 6, and as a result had made changes to its curriculum to prioritise the development of pupil’s spoken language and reading, and whilst it was too soon for these changes to have taken a full effect, Ofsted noted that a number of approaches were now in place and that most pupils do go on to become confident and fluent readers.

The school’s provision for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) was also praised. Ofsted said: “The school has highly effective processes to identify and support pupils with additional needs at the earliest opportunity. Staff ably adapt the content and delivery of the curriculum to meet these needs. As a result, pupils with SEND achieve well and are fully involved in all aspects of school life.”

Well done to Lyme Community Primary School!
