Time to nominate for this year’s Educate Awards

by Gemma Melling

Calling all Newton-le-Willows schools and colleges! It’s time to enter the esteemed Educate Awards and shine a spotlight on your school or college.

The Educate Awards is the largest education awards in the North West and is now in its twelfth year of running. The awards are open to schools and colleges of all shapes and sizes, including alternative and SEND provisions.

There are 19 categories for schools, academies, and colleges to enter. Each category has entry criteria and looks for the school demonstrating an outstanding commitment in a specific area, including STEM, literacy, performing arts and sports.

The Teacher of the Year award is one of the strongest categories and receives many nominations from fellow colleagues, students and parents. The award recognises a teacher who goes above and beyond their role to ensure student success.

In recent years, Newton-le-Willows has had a number of winners at the Educate Awards. In the 2020 awards, Wargrave House scooped ‘Most Inspirational 16-18 Education Provider’ and in 2021, they also picked up the Community Partnership Award; with Hope Academy picking up Outstanding Commitment to Sport & Physical Activity in Secondary School that same year.

Educate Awards Founder, Kim O’Brien, is keen to see more Newton-le-Willows schools and colleges enter the awards. She said: “Each year we see entries from across the North West, but we are eager to hear from schools and colleges in Newton-le-Willows.

“Our goal is to spread awareness of the awards in Newton-le-Willows so they can be in with a chance of winning. There are so many fantastic things happening across schools and colleges in this area, and we want to hear about them.

“The awards are about so much more than winning. They are a celebration of education in all its forms. We bring together schools, academies, and colleges across the region to share each other’s success and achievements.”

The annual awards extravaganza returns to the Liverpool Cathedral on Friday, 17 November, for a night of glitz and glam. This year Liverpool legend and long-term Greatest Hits Radio presenter Simon ‘Rossie’ Ross will return as host.

The evening will feature a jam-packed programme with special performances from schools in the region.

Entries for the awards are open but be quick as they close on Sunday, 23 July.
